Falaise de corail127 million years ago, when the level of the ocean was 100 meters higher than now, an important underwater volcano emerged from the deep ocean.
The grown volcano is dated aground 11 million years old. The lowering of the water level participates in the emersion of the island.

Progressively as it is carried along towards the north west by the pacific plate under it’s own weight it wrinkles and an important coral reef develops in its periphery.
But, around 6.5 million years ago, tectonic movement caused by bulge of the oceanic plaque linked to a thermal readjustment of the lithosphere affected the island.
The carbon formations under water –ancient coral reef- elevated from 50 to 70 meters. At the same time the level of the oceans went through several variations of level, of which traces can be seen till this day (visible erosion lines over the cliffs in diverse sides).

Falaises

The island takes its course with the pacific plaque and for 1 million years it passed with self-assurance from the hat point of Timo Mana. The secondary volcanic grown comes up again, giving the summits... Since that time, air erosion, has changed different structures, dying in the island the aspect we know: blunt summit, caves in the carbon formations...Carried away by the Pacific plaque, the island follows its progression towards the North West at 11 cm/per year shrinking progressively.

A new reef has developed around the island. Several strange “passes” permit the passage of pirogues. At Avera, the plateir is large enough and a real pass gives access to the ocean. The platier is covered with some decimeters of water. It will be necessary to wait several million years so that a real limited lagoon by barrier reef was visible.
